Wall Repair in Bayonne

We repair cracked, dented and damaged walls, drywall or older plaster, and leave a smooth surface ready for paint. Before any work starts, you get a realistic timeline and an arrival window, and if a coat needs longer to dry, we tell you early.

When a Wall Needs More Than a Quick Patch

Wall repair covers the damage that runs past a single hole: long cracks that keep coming back, sections of loose plaster, crushed outside corners, walls left scarred after a TV mount or shelving comes down. We work on standard drywall and on the plaster and lath found in many older homes, and we choose the repair method by what the wall is made of.

A small dent or one doorknob hole is usually a job for our drywall patching service. When the damage is wider, or the same crack shows up again after every paint job, the wall needs a proper repair. That means finding why it failed, fixing the cause in the wall itself and finishing so the repair disappears under paint.

Mud has to dry between coats, so most wall repairs take more than one visit. We lay out that schedule on the first call so you can plan your week around it.

What Our Wall Repair Includes

Crack repair that holds

We open the crack, set paper or mesh tape, and build it up in thin coats. Taping keeps the crack from showing back through, which caulk and spackle alone rarely manage.

Plaster stabilizing and repair

Loose plaster gets reattached to the lath with plaster washers or cut back to sound material. We fill the gap with setting compound or a fitted drywall piece and feather it into the old surface.

Corner bead replacement

Dented or rusting metal corners get cut out and replaced with new bead. We then float the corner straight so it reads as one clean line.

Mount and anchor damage

Taking down TVs, shelves and cabinets leaves torn paper and clusters of anchor holes. We remove the anchors, seal any torn face paper and skim the area flat.

Texture matching and sanding

If your wall has a texture, we match it. If it's smooth, we sand it smooth. The repaired section is primed so paint takes evenly instead of flashing.

A clean work area

Drop cloths go down before any tools come out, and plastic sheeting goes over whatever stays in the room. Sanding happens inside a sheeted-off zone, and we vacuum before leaving at the end of every visit.

Signs Your Walls Are Due for Repair

  • Cracks that return

A crack that reappears after you fill and paint it is moving with the house. It needs tape and a proper build-up, not another layer of filler.

  • Bulging or hollow-sounding plaster

Press gently on an older plaster wall. If it gives or sounds hollow, the keys holding it to the lath have broken and the section can let go.

  • Nail pops in a row

Small round bumps along a line usually mean fasteners have backed out of the studs. We reset them with screws before refinishing.

  • Stains or soft spots after a leak

Once the leak is fixed, damp drywall can stay soft and crumbly. That section should be cut out and replaced.

  • Damaged corners and edges

Chipped, dented or exposed metal at outside corners tends to get worse with every bump.

How a Wall Repair Job Runs

  1. 1

A call to set the plan

You describe the damage by phone, and we set a time to look at it. You get an arrival window, not a vague day.

  2. 2

    Assessment and written scope

We check what the wall is made of and why it failed. Then we write out the repair, the number of visits and the expected drying time between coats.

  3. 3

    Prep and first coats

We cover the room and cut out or stabilize damaged material. Then we tape and apply the first coat. This visit usually takes the longest.

  4. 4

    Finish coats and sanding

We come back on the dates we gave you to apply the finish coats, sand, match texture and prime. If humidity slows drying, we contact you before the visit to move it.

  5. 5

    Walkthrough

We look the wall over with you under raking light, take care of anything that shows and leave it ready for paint or a paint touch-up.

What Shapes the Cost of Wall Repair

Every wall repair is priced on its own, after we've seen the damage. You get your quote by phone or at the visit, with the scope written out so nothing surprises you later. These are the things that move it most.

Wall material
Old plaster over lath takes more steps to stabilize and blend than modern drywall, so it usually costs more per square foot.
Size and number of areas
One long crack and five scattered holes in different rooms are priced differently, even when the total area is similar.
Cause of the damage
Fasteners that have backed out, broken plaster keys or wet board all need fixing before finishing, and that adds labor.
Finish level and texture
Bright side light from a window shows every ridge on a smooth wall, so that surface calls for extra skim coats and more careful sanding. A textured hallway wall hides more and goes faster.
Access and room setup
Stairwells, high walls and furnished rooms take extra time to set up and protect.

Wall Repair Questions

Something not covered here? (201) 298-0796

How many visits will my wall repair take?

Most repairs take two or three visits. Joint compound needs time to cure between layers, and rushing it leads to shrinkage and hairline cracks later. Larger plaster repairs can take more. We give you the visit dates up front and keep you posted if drying time changes them.

Can you repair plaster walls, or do you replace them with drywall?

Usually we repair them. Sound plaster can be reattached and blended. Only sections too far gone are cut out and filled with drywall set flush to the old surface.

Will the repaired spot show after painting?

Not if it's finished and primed properly. We feather the compound well past the damage, match the surrounding texture and prime the repair so the paint dries to an even sheen. Our paint touch-ups service can handle the final color.

How much dust should I expect?

Some sanding dust is unavoidable. We keep it down with plastic sheeting, floor covers and careful sanding, and we vacuum the work area at the end of each visit.

Do I need to move furniture before you arrive?

Clearing a few feet in front of the wall helps. If something is too heavy to move, tell us when you call, and we'll plan to cover it in place.
